Uncovering the brain’s common principles underlying diverse phenomena
Our brain integrates a wide range of information, from changes in the internal bodily environment to external stimuli and past experiences, to regulate responses across the entire organism.
Even biological phenomena that appear distinct may reveal common brain functions when viewed through the decomposition of their inputs and outputs.
My research aims to identify the common principles of brain function underlying diverse phenomena at the levels of neural circuits and cells.
From this perspective, I seek to understand sleep and wakefulness, emotion, and metabolic responses not as separate phenomena, but as manifestations of the brain’s regulatory principles that support the organism as a whole.
