The Science of Cancer Prevention: Insights from Comparative Studies between Japan and the United States
As a physician in the Breast and Endocrine Surgery Department at the University of Tsukuba, my experience working with cancer patients led me to develop a strong interest in preventive medicine. My research focuses primarily on two themes: breast cancer screening and the health of breast cancer survivors after diagnosis. During my graduate studies in Social Medicine, I trained in Health Services Research and Digital Health, where I came to recognize the importance of integrating both clinical and epidemiological perspectives in breast cancer studies. In my current research, I use cohort data from Japan and the United States to compare Japanese individuals living in Japan with Japanese Americans living in the United States. Through these comparisons, I aim to identify how racial, genetic, and environmental factors influence the incidence of cancer, treatment outcomes, and prognosis. By leveraging large-scale data, I seek to advance research that contributes to improving patient health outcomes.
